The Birch Series

Woodland situated on the Hambleton Hills in North Yorkshire was the inspiration for the ‘Birches’ series of paintings, a place of childhood memories and one that Mo returns to often and writes of the work:

“The early morning mist hovering around the base of the trees and the Sun just breaking through penetrating the eerie stillness, dissolving the mist and sending it back from whence it came. It is almost magical - one moment it is there, the next it has gone. It’s important to be alone in the mist, with the eeriness, with the sun forcing its way through the silent trees, only then will it impart the secret of stillness and awe”.

Carey Moon in her article, ‘In Conversation with Mo Enright’ in Art of England magazine wrote, ‘the Birches are not trying to be naturalistic representation of those trees, but rather a distillation of the atmosphere – the mystery of the place. And that, indeed, is what they seem to convey. These paintings are quite compelling’
